Here are our top five events happening in Greater Williamsburg during October.

Oct. 4–27: The Count’s Spooktacular

Busch Gardens Williamsburg is known for hosting spectacular Halloween haunts. However, on Saturdays and Sundays, from Oct. 4–27, let the kids come out for their own “not-too-spooky fun” during The Count’s Spooktacular. Head to the Sesame Street Forest of Fun, an area of Busch Gardens dedicated to children and their families, for a kid-friendly Halloween celebration.

The Count’s Spooktacular will feature a hay maze, trick-or-treating, an interactive Halloween-themed show and all of your favorite Sesame Street characters.

Oct. 5: Williamsburg Book Festival

Come out for a day celebrating books and book lovers during the Williamsburg Book Festival. This free, family-friendly festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Stryker Center. The event will feature several events from authors from various genres, speakers, illustrators and publishers, both local and national.

Oct. 5: Yorktown Wine Festival

Sip Virginia wine against the backdrop of Riverwalk Landing at the Yorktown Wine Festival. In addition to local and regional wine, vintages from Yorktown’s sister cities, Zweibrücken and Port-Vendres, will also be available for sampling. Along with tasting wine, the festival will also feature live music, food from local restaurants, works from local artisans and a craft beer garden.

Oct. 19: Yorktown Day

Celebrate Yorktown and America’s independence during the annual Yorktown Day celebration. On Saturday, Oct. 19, Yorktown Battlefield, the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and York County will all honor the 1781 Siege at Yorktown with a full day of events and activities. The American Friends of Lafayette will also unveil a new statue to General Lafayette, at Riverwalk Landing in front of the Freight Shed.

Until Oct. 27: Busch Gardens Howl-O-Scream

Fall officially begins at Busch Gardens Williamsburg with the park’s annual Howl-O-Scream. This frightful, month-long event features haunted houses with monsters lurking around every corner, themed scare zones, escape rooms and entertaining live shows. All of Howl-O-Scream’s attractions and activities are included with your admissions ticket to Busch Gardens.
