Aug. 2–4: Scares that Care Charity Weekend

Experience three days of family-friendly fear at the Scares that Care Charity Weekend. Guests of all ages can compete in fun activities, take pictures with celebrity guests and have a spooky good time. The weekend-long event also includes a 5K race and kid’s fun run on Saturday, Aug. 3. Proceeds from this event will benefit families with severely ill children, women fighting breast cancer and children suffering from burn injuries.

Aug. 3: Whistle Belly

Celebrate great food and drink at the Whistle Belly beer festival on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Merchants Square. Presented by the Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg and crafted by DoG Street Pub, Whistle Belly is a Virginia beer and more festival that will feature 30 breweries, as well as food and live music. This charitable event, in honor of Virginia Craft Beer Month, will benefit local nonprofit organizations and scholarships to high school students.

Aug. 3–4: Butterfly Festival

The 5th Annual Butterfly Festival is the chance to interact with hundreds of butterflies at the Williamsburg Botanical Garden. Stop by during this free two-day festival to visit the butterfly tents, filled with over 300 live butterflies, and take part in education programs and crafts. Learn about the lifecycles of butterflies and hear from knowledgeable speakers.

Aug. 16–Sept. 2: Bier Fest

Get a taste of Germany at Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s annual Bier Fest. Bier Fest is an Oktoberfest celebration where you can sample traditional German food, listen to live music and more at this Bavarian celebration. This three-week festival takes place on weekends at the park and features over 100 beers on tap during the festival.

Aug. 25: NPS Birthday

Celebrate the 103rd birthday of the National Park Service on Sunday, Aug. 25 with free admission to the national parks in the Greater Williamsburg area. The National Park Service was created on Aug. 25, 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Act. In honor of this anniversary, the National Park Service not only offers free admission, but also offers guests special events and happenings at these parks. Visit Colonial National Historical Park, Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield to celebrate.
